"Art That Changes Society" 


 Hello all!

The artist of Philosophers 
My name is Veronica Thompson and I am a first year at UCLA. I am a Psychology major. The art show that I attended today was all about showing off art that has the ability to change society. The art work surrounded many topics that need awareness to be brought to them.


The artist and I 







My Experience  
Attending the Understanding Art & Research. I had a wonderful time seeing all the beautiful art work. There was one specific art piece that caught my eye, being a psych major I am interested with most things that surround the mind and brain diseases. The art piece done by an artist from Vienna , Artistic Research on Patterns of Perception and Action in the Context of the Aging Society. This art work was all about learning about Dementia and how it affects everyone in some why. I was lucky enough to speak with the artist herself and she explained to me that if our society learns more about the diseases so that the rest of society can become compatible with the ones with the disease. This mixes in with the class because all of the artist that were in the exhibit, used digital and science which helped the audience experience their art in a way that was extraordinary.

 The Artist form Vienna 
 The artist from Vienna stated that after studying the disease, her mother was diagnosed with Dementia. While speaking to her, she also stated that this diseases affects way more people around us then we know. Our family, our friends or relatives are struggling with something like the beginning stages or full on dementia. The artist said," We all are personally touched by the diseases no matter who it is in our lives."

I personally related to this art work because both of my grandparents unfortunately struggle with this diseases. This sickness does not just affect the person that has the sickness, it affects everybody around the person that has been diagnosed. Family and friends are also heavily affected by this horrible diseases. I too believe that if more awareness is spread around the nation more people would understand these people and their struggles.

Week 6: Bio Tech and Art  Many of our foods today are extremely tasty and are visual pleasing, however there is a system in which creates and maintains these interesting looking foods. For example, Bananas are one of the most publicly known fruits. This fruit is used in a million different ways and for many different meals and snacks. In my personally experience I really enjoy bananas with almond butter or peanut butter with honey on top of a rice cake or toast. I think this is an amazing breakfast of snack, yet there is more to a banana then meets the eye. Week 1: Two Cultures These article are all about culture and how they shape our thoughts.  (The combining of cultures) Within "Toward a Third Culture: Being In Between," Vesna explains the views of two cultures. Vesna goes into detail of how thinking in different ways becomes our culture. Later Vesna explains how we are able to slowly emerge into a new culture by thinking in different or unlikely ways. For example, we are already divided into different cultures when we think. Given that our society has been sculpted into believing that there are two different ways, science and history. North vs. South Campus  This sort if division is see all over the word, yet, it is also closer to us then we believe. With UCLA we accept this difference in culture.
