Week 6: Bio Tech and Art

Image
Week 6: Bio Tech and Art  Many of our foods today are extremely tasty and are visual pleasing, however there is a system in which creates and maintains these interesting looking foods. For example, Bananas are one of the most publicly known fruits. This fruit is used in a million different ways and for many different meals and snacks. In my personally experience I really enjoy bananas with almond butter or peanut butter with honey on top of a rice cake or toast. I think this is an amazing breakfast of snack, yet there is more to a banana then meets the eye. A banana is a genetically modified fruit, meaning it has been tampered with in order to ensure its values. Have you ever notices a banana with a seed? No, because they have been genetically modified to be represented without them. Within the United States, bananas are one of the many fruits that have been mutated to recreated. Due to the ability of the advanced technology in biology we are able to make these miner and dras...

Week 4 :Medicine/Technology/Art

Week 4 :Medicine/Technology/Art I have a strong connection with the medicine and technology. As I want to become a Doctor, I am rather interested with anything medical. I have had three surgeries in the past that have made me very interested in the field itself. I am truly mesmerized with the idea of using technology with in the medical field. By using different technology, the field is able to advance in ways that are amazing. The amount of research that goes into the form of medicine is insane. I believe the medical is its own art form. For me personally, I have experienced this art form first hand. When is was younger I under went a reconstructive knee surgery. Within this surgery, they had to use a cadaver to create a new ligament. The thought of having to be so meticulous and precise excites me. When Doctor is preforming surgery on a person, it's like they are recreating or creating a new part of the body. The body itself is an art piece, therefore when doctors must r...

Week 3: Robotics and Art

Week 3: Robotics & Art Technology and Art are one of those things that I have never really go hand and hand. I believe that technology is made to help our society function in a more functional manner yet technology can also make different art forms. I know there are many artist that are constantly using technology to create their own art pieces. Game of Thrones  For example, in the television series Game of Thrones, there is technology that it used to create an entire world of fictional art. The production and creativity that goes into making one hour long show takes up to three weeks of just filming. Down below is a photograph of how the fictional world for the series comes alive. The majority of the production is green screen, therefore they can create an alternate world. The Game of Thrones Tv series has a 15 million dollar budget so it is able create its worlds. The new media age of creating real life green screen and technology has increased the abilities of the p...

Event 2: Bio-mimicry in the Garden: Drawing Inspiration from Plants for Technology & Design

Event 2 :  Bio-mimicry in the Garden: Drawing Inspiration from Plants for Technology & Design Hello all!  The botanical garden  This week I was able to attend and amazing exhibition called the botanical gardens which revolved around the interesting relationship between technology, art and nature. The exhibition was called, "Sprouting and branching: Natural models of proliferation and repair. The main focus of the event was comparing the importance of how plants and neuroscience are more alike them we know. I have never made this connection before because when usually thinking about art or nature, my mind does not automatically involve the presents of technology. However, being able to attend this exhibition has opened my eyes yet again to another side of art that I have never thought about.  Comparison of brain to roots                                 ...

Week 2: Math and art

Image
Week 2: Math & Art  This week, we learned all about how artist are able to create art using different mathematically techniques. Within the readings, art is explained by having many different dimensions and shape and so on allowing the reading to make a connection between simple geometry and art. I once took several art classes and when drawing people or objects we would draw a base of a circle or oval or some sort of shape. I never really understand why, yet, this is a perfect example of how math and art are easily correlated as the geometry is a baseline for the art.  Scientists or mathematicians are involved with art becasue they too are often creative people that enjoy expressing them selves in a different an interesting way. Science, art, and math have a unique ability to bring out the creative natural in people all around the world.   J uxtaposition  with in science and art is a position in which two objects are place side by side allowing...

Week 1: Two Cultures VeeronicaTDESMA9

Week 1: Two Cultures These article are all about culture and how they shape our thoughts.  (The combining of cultures) Within "Toward a Third Culture: Being In Between," Vesna explains the views of two cultures. Vesna goes into detail of how thinking in different ways becomes our culture. Later Vesna explains how we are able to slowly emerge into a new culture by thinking in different or unlikely ways. For example, we are already divided into different cultures when we think. Given that our society has been sculpted into believing that there are two different ways, science and history. North vs. South Campus  This sort if division is see all over the word, yet, it is also closer to us then we believe. With UCLA we accept this difference in culture. When meeting someone new, we often ask, "Are you North or South Campus?" This is a prime example of the division. We have to choose what culture we would like to be apart of. Knowing a person that is...

"Art That Changes Society"   Hello all! The artist of Philosophers  My name is Veronica Thompson and I am a first year at UCLA. I am a Psychology major. The art show that I attended today was all about showing off art that has the ability to change society. The art work surrounded many topics that need awareness to be brought to them. The artist and I  My Experience   Attending the Understanding Art & Research. I had a wonderful time seeing all the beautiful art work. There was one specific art piece that caught my eye, being a psych major I am interested with most things that surround the mind and brain diseases. The art piece done by an artist from Vienna , Artistic Research on Patterns of Perception and Action in the Context of the Aging Society. This art work was all about learning about Dementia and how it affects everyone in some why. I was lucky enough to speak with the artist herself and she explained to me that ...
