Week 8: NanoTech and Art

Nanotechnology on a blood cell

Nanotechnology is a complex yet very exciting
field. Through this form of technology, scientist
are able to insanely small amounts of chemical
vapor which includes being able to detect nano-
particles and nano-materials. Thus meaning that
we are able to manipulate particles in the world,
possibly  making a small change here or there
creating new forms of certain particle values.

Nanotechnology has never been a topic that I have been interested in. I believe that it is to complex
and complicated. Nanotechnology is one of there areas of science that makes my head spin. However,
after researching, I have realized that nanotechnology is used in many different areas of science. For
example, nanotechnology is used in the medicine to help find damaged cells or signs of early cell
disease. The medical field is recently been leaning towards nanotechnology to help identify early
cases of disease. Using this form of technology is able to help diseases before that start.
Nanotechnology is also used within foods to mutate certain food groups. Mutating foods is almost
like edited the flavor or making it seedless or anything else of that nature. Using these changes are

small but still have a huge affect to make the food
more nutritious, healthier and protected.
Nanotechnology helps the world in all aspects,
through the environment, technology and medicine
to create a better world.

Through this weeks readings, nanotechnology and
art are used for more than a visible inspiration.
They are also used to introduce the dynamic
This week I attended a workshop which involved the
importance of nanotechnology. The art piece
that I observed.

Most recently, the use of nanotechnology has been for the horrible drug, cancer. The treatment that
the majority of cancer patients are being saved by the process of nano therapy. Nano-therapy is
a process in which the cancer patient can be relieved of strain from chemo therapy. This treatment is
almost a way in which recovers and repairs the damage that other treatments do.

The cells are penetrated on a nano scale and then are implanted in the blood cell to bring oxygen
therefore the cells will have better circulations through the body allowing more blood to enter blood
vessels and create a better opportunity for patients to recover from chemotherapy

Shown here is a picture of cancer cells being
attacked by nano cells. The cancer cells are
the blue cells while the red is the antibody
of the nano cells and the green is the core
of the nano cell. The colors red and green
are working together to attack the cancer
cells and remove them. This is what happens
within the body when a cancer patient is
being treated with nano particles.

  1. Hi Veronica! I think your blog this week was one of your best so far! I agree that this topic is not one I was interested either, but this class has opened up my eyes to! I also think that it's awesome you went to an event surronding it, and I am looking forward to reading that blog post too! I think you did a great job of explaining the concept with it being so complex, even at its basis.

  2. I love how you discussed all the ways in which nanotechnology is used in science and then related them back to art!
